The Birdcage to join Civic’s social enterprises
Civic’s long standing commitment to provide employment for people with disability continues with recent news regarding The Birdcage café at Engadine.
From 1 September 2019 Civic will become the new owner of the café, transferring ownership from current disability provider Sylvanvale. This is wonderful news for Civic’s Kitchen & Catering social enterprise as our organisation expands catering services in the Sutherland Shire. The café will also join existing services in Nowra, Caringbah, Merrylands and soon in Penrith.
Both Sylvanvale and Civic are proud to celebrate this partnership as both organisations continue their commitment to securing supported employment in the Sutherland Shire.
Located in the historic Boystown Bakery on Waratah Road Engadine, the Birdcage Café is an award-winning café and catering business supplying the Sutherland Shire and St George areas with savoury and sweet food for meetings, conferences, functions, parties and events.
Twelve supported employees currently working at the café will be supported by Civic from now until the transition and beyond.
Civic’s CEO Annie Doyle said, “Civic is so proud to be partnering with Sylvanvale to transition the Birdcage café at Engadine to Civic café and catering. This partnership demonstrates both Civic and Sylvanvale’s commitment to supporting valued employment for people with a disability and ensuring that people with a disability are integral to the rich tapestry of the Sutherland Shire community”.
